Why did my calibration fail in Vahana VR?

If your calibration is failing, please check the following:

Check the camera settings

All your cameras need to have the same settings. Check-list before calibrating:

  1. Please do not use the camera zoom feature, or the GoPro4 Superview mode
  2. Choose the correct lens parameters when calibrating (for GoPro, the horizontal FOV is about 120°). FOV for common rigs can be found here
  3. If you have circular fisheye lenses or are in photo mode, do not forget to crop the input images

Carefully pick your calibration scene

When setting up a shooting, the first step should be calibration:

  1. Check that your scene has enough details (if a camera is shooting 100% the sky, it will be hard to calibrate)
  2. Remove all close objects (cables, ...): try to have no object closer than one meter

Rotate your rig and launch the calibration again

By rotating your camera, you will put new features/details on the overlapping part of the images, which will enable Vahana VR to detect new control points. The newly created control points will accumulate with the previous ones providing a better chance to get a successful calibration

Import a manual calibration

Please note that VideoStitch software is compatible with PtGui and Hugin so that you can manually create a calibration if you couldn't have a good enough calibration scene. It can then be imported in Vahana VR:

Please note that each individual camera should be positioned at the same index on your rig each time if you don't want to create a new calibration.

Each camera should be plugged into the same HDMI port every time you set up everything again in order to re-use your configuration or manual template with a previously created calibration

You should now be good to go!
