Vahana VR offers basically five outputs:
- It can output to supported SDI cards.
- It can save the stitched video to a local hard drive.
- It can encode in h264 and stream the video to a CDN with RTMP.
- It can stream directly to YouTube
- It can output in an HDM (Oculus Rift / HTC Vive)
Vahana VR can handle several outputs at the same time: you can save, send to SDI and RTMP at the same time depending on your system capabilities.
What is the difference between SDI output and RTMP?
SDI (Serial Digital Interface) is a standard protocol used in the video broadcasting industry. SDI offers a high speed video transmission over a single BNC cable.
Here is why you would use SDI output:
- If you're working for a broadcaster, he'll perfectly know what to do with SDI.
- You're looking to use an external hardware encoder to have the best possible encoding quality. It can be a high end encoder, such as a Harmonics, Elemental or Atem. Or if you're looking to plug a 4G broadcast system for instance.
- You want to have a real-time high resolution preview of the stitched video for a director during the shoot for instance.
- You're looking to have several 360 cameras with a live video editing solution.
Here is why you would use RTMP output:
- You want to encode and broadcast the video to a CDN easily, RTMP is the solution.
- You don't want to use / buy an external encoder.
- The form factor of the solution is a concern.
